Enter on the side

While the fact that this store is in a mixed-use development is rather ahead of its time for 1987, the design of the Safeway space itself is the exact opposite. This must be one of the last stores they built with a full-width glass vestibule and side-facing entrance doors, a design that's not too different from what they were using in the Marina era. Other than that, the exterior design here seems to be entirely up to the landlord (particularly the dark grey paint scheme, which is quite odd for a Safeway) -- it appears that the building used to have a little more 80s flair to it, but at this point it's one of the most bland Safeway buildings in my area.
