Amusingly, Sprouts health and beauty department is in the front right corner -- the exact same place it was in the Albertsons days! Obviously, it looks completely different, especially since Sprouts stripped out all of the soffits and drop ceilings, but it's fun to see that one department came right back to where it was previously.
I'm not sure which health department looks more boring, this grey one or the very white Albertsons one with the strange 'wellbeing' signage. I think maybe this Sprouts department looks better even if it has all of the appeal of duct tape!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Albertsons, here's a story in the 1993 Sainsbury's magazine from the UK about Shaw's supermarkets in the US which were owned by Sainsbury at the time before later being sold to Albertsons. It's interesting taking a look at Shaw's decor at the time. It's strange, it looks like something more appropriate at an Office Depot or Service Merchandise than at a supermarket, but that's what they had. The article is a bit of an interesting look because it takes a look at a US supermarket from the perspective of people who aren't familiar with US supermarkets. Anyway, if nothing else, you'll probably like the photos. Link: https://d1nvj7b44vmgv4.cloudfront.net/_file/journal/SA_SC_JSJ_47_9.pdf#page=13
Ha, yeah, not the most interesting decor! And interesting -- I didn't realize Shaw's used to be owned by Sainsbury's!
