Deli, side view

One thing I quite like about Bountiful is how dimensional most of the decor elements are, with the main department signs having large wooden beams and a curved metal frame that the text is on. Seeing it in this side view, that curved frame sticks out much further than I expected, somehow! Very few decor packages these days have such elaborate dimensional elements, sadly -- I guess it's cheaper that way.

  1. I might be in the minority, but I've always liked 2012/Bountiful decor. I know that when it first became popular here in Houston, it seemed like Kroger rolled it out to almost every location during a short period of time. In some cases, it replaced decor at different stores that had varying decor packages. The cookie-cutter approach to things was a bit of a turn-off. An even bigger turn-off was Kroger removing floor covering at some locations when they got Bountiful. That was terrible, but the decor package itself is solid even if the other things Kroger did along with it weren't so solid.

One of the foreign newspapers I read, a British one, posted a photo gallery of photos from a 1980s grand opening of a Sainsbury's grocery store there. I thought you might like to see how things differ from and are similar to what 1980s supermarkets did here. It's kind of neat to see this: https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/news/history/gallery/gallery-early-huddersfield-sainsburys-time-23046579

    1. Yeah, Bountiful is a pretty well done decor package. It's not all that well suited to QFC's traditional low ceilings, though, which is why I've never been the biggest fan. Fresh Fare 2.0, which was used at the same time, would have looked much nicer in QFCs, in my opinion.

Cool stuff! Neat that there's a "Sainsbury's Archive" in a museum somewhere 🙂

    2. Not only is there a Sainsbury's Archive in a museum, but they have over 33,000 Sainsbury's historic images on their website! Imagine if Kroger or Safeway had something like this!

    3. Cool! I'm pretty sure Safeway has an archive of historic photos (since they like using them as local flair in their stores) -- I sure wish that was public!

  2. The way Anonymous phrases it in his first paragraph is exactly how I feel. Bountiful is a great package, I was just not thrilled with it at first for how quickly it rolled out and all of the other décors it wiped out. Now that it's just as quickly disappearing itself, I'm rather sad about it.

    1. I totally understand that, since I feel the same way about Safeway's Modern Decor. Up here in QFC land, it's weird to think of Bountiful as a disappearing decor package -- I don't believe a single QFC has been remodeled away from Bountiful, while many (including this store) have been remodeled while retaining Bountiful.
