Crowded and cramped

This is apparently what passes for an actionway at HomeGoods, with more space dedicated to piles of furniture nearly to the (artificially low) ceiling than actual circulation. Off to the right is apparently the "fake architectural elements" department. Unfortunately, my camera didn't seem to like the weird lighting in this store, but you're not missing much.

  1. It's a bit strange to see a retail store like this with what looks like household lighting fixtures, but I suppose it fits in at a place like HomeGoods where maybe they are trying to give a feeling of home with a lower ceiling. Still, it is a bit strange, but I don't think it looks bad in the photos. Maybe it has a different feel in-person.

Have you seen the new downsized Macy's stores called Market by Macy's? It looks like the first few of these stores are opening in Georgia and North Texas. One I saw on Google Maps in North Texas is tiny. It looks like it is in an old drug store spot or something! Anyway, here is one of the first stores to already open in Georgia. It looks like a plain retail shell with Macy's fixtures! It's quite bad looking, but I know a lot of newer downsized Kohl's stores look like this as well. I think we've officially reached the point where new TXMaxx/Marshalls type stores look better than new department store locations from the likes of Macy's. That's quite sad and it says more about the Macy's type stores than it does about the TJX stores I think! Link: https://goo.gl/maps/aKPwSMQBryhzwzpz6

    1. Yeah, it's definitely a weird store...

Interesting! I hadn't heard of that concept. Not something that's come to the northwest, but that's no surprise since we're always the last to get new concepts (unless it's Kroger we're talking about). I agree, those stores look quite low end for Macy's.
