Health and Bounty(ful)

That bit of weirdness that I was alluding to last week is the Bountiful-style health and beauty decor, which is quite rare around here, even in Bountiful stores. (Some would probably consider this to be part of the Bountiful+ package of generic decor elements, but I don't really think of it that way personally, since it's nowhere near as ubiquitous as the other elements like the category markers and register lights.) I almost thought this might have originated with Mercer instead of Bountiful, since the other Mercer store with a pharmacy has the same decor, but no -- Yelp has a photo from 2009 showing the original health and beauty design, featuring woodgrain versions of the category markers we saw in the liquor department and an odd QFC Pharmacy logo that I haven't seen elsewhere. (Another sign that this decor isn't original -- the lettered aisle markers have spaces for category plaques that are unused here.) And speaking of Bountiful+, QFC actually had what could be considered Mercer+ for a while -- many of the smaller elements from this decor package (such as the supplemental pharmacy signs) lived on to be used in Bountiful, Fresh Fare 2.0, and Neighborhood stores, though I'm pretty sure they're no longer used in Urban Mix.

  1. That's interesting that this stuff isn't common in your area. It seems to be in every location around here!

    1. Yeah, it seems to be a lot more common in actual Krogers than any of their other brands, from what I've seen.
