This store had the typical Barnes & Noble checkout setup of a single long row of counters. I always feel like Barnes & Nobles have far more checkouts than they could ever possibly use, especially in a lower-volume store like this one.
The last time I bought something from a B&M B&N (huh, that looks strange, lol) was during Christmas 2019 when they only had one register open. I literally had to wait at least 20 minutes as the customer in front of me had some sort of gift card malfunction and they had to phone someone in the corporate offices to resolve it. Even then, I'm not sure if they did resolve it, but they finally asked the customer to move aside so they could ring the rest of us up.
That type of experience reminded me of some of the problems I ran into at Sears stores over the years when someone's Shop Your Way Rewards points didn't work correctly or someone had an issue with their Sears Card. Oh well, hopefully those types of experiences are rare at B&N!
Oh, on a completely unrelated note, did you hear about the QFC and Fred Meyer employees who went on strike today in Oregon? I suppose the labor issues Kroger has here in Houston right now aren't solely confined to Houston! Yeah, that's the experience I've had with Barnes & Noble too... that's why it feels like their checkout setups are way overbuilt! And those Sears issues are all too familiar too... it seemed like the systems never worked properly at the local Sears Hometown growing up.
I hadn't heard about that, though I had heard some talk that something might happen. Luckily it hasn't spread to Seattle's grocery stores yet, but it feels like lots of businesses have been going on strike lately... one of the most important suppliers at my work has been on strike, which has messed everything up!
