The front right corner (again, using the lower level's main entrance as the front) is home to the sporting goods department -- and they clearly had the wall space to write out "sporting goods", so I have to wonder why they didn't! Also, the letters don't all seem to be at the same height on the wall, though it's possible that it just looks weird because of the font they used. Speaking of which, it's notable that all of the upstairs departments use the same font (except for the ones with Banner-like decor), whereas Neighborhood uses a few different styles of lettering for its normal grocery departments -- Retail Retell pointed out that this style is basically the same as the lunch meat department, which I hadn't thought about since I don't think I've ever seen that department in person. The wall colors are also recycled from other parts of the store -- this department has the same wall color as produce, and was also used in the decor department. So I guess the general merchandise decor isn't quite as custom as I had thought, but it's still neat that it's actual Neighborhood decor for the most part!
That shade of green is a nice color for a sporting goods department, but here again, Kroger has shortened the department name when they had plenty of room to write it in a more accepted way. If they used normal terminology, there would have been fewer areas of awkward blank space. I'm really not sure what FM/Kroger was thinking here!
ReplyDeleteYeah, there's sure a lot of that weirdness in this store...
DeleteThanks for the link! I actually don't mind the word Sports being used here, it's kinda unique. But yeah, the décor leaves a lot to be desired, mainly in the use of the same font over and over (at least they varied the wall paint!)
