Looking in

The reason I came by after dusk was that I've found that it makes taking pictures through glass (when the inside space is still lit) easier, at the expense of causing problems for pictures of the exterior (which I had plenty of already). None of these pictures turned out amazing, thanks to the second set of glass doors, but I think they look reasonably good, especially since this was with my old camera. Here's a view in through the doors I typically entered through, showing the completely empty salesfloor (not that that's much different from the previous day).

  1. This reminds me of a closed Macy's experience I had at the Mall of the Mainland in what must have been 2013 or very early 2014. The Macy's had been closed there for a few months and the mall itself was going to close not long after the time I was there on this visit. The mall was almost completely dead as it often was, but for whatever reason one night they had all the lights on on the first floor of the empty ex-Macy's! Because of that, I could completely look inside it. It looked like this picture you took, but that Macy's had more built-in fixtures which were visible around the cosmetics counters and such.

I'm not really sure why the lights were turned on at that Macy's that night, but it was neat seeing the inside of it one last time. I say one last time, but after the mall closed, a developer bought it and the Macy's and turned part of the Macy's into a Palais Royal (Stage) store. Palais Royal used a lot of the Macy's features of the store, including those built-in fixtures at the cosmetics counter, so it was really the nicest Palais Royal around. Of course, with Stage going out of business last year, that store has since closed as well.

    1. Sounds like a neat experience! It's always interesting to find empty stores with the lights still on. This store still had some of the built-in fixtures in place on this visit, just not in this part of the store. Interesting to hear that about Palais Royal -- it's always nice when low-budget stores that like to do minimal remodels take over places like that!
