Joining the interminable line

I suppose that title is a bit misleading -- I had to wait in line for several minutes just to get to this point! Anyway, I made the grave mistake of actually buying stuff on this visit to Walmart (minus several things that they didn't have in stock), so I had to wait in the crazy lines to check out (I wasn't interested in being like someone who was waiting in line with me, who just bailed out and walked out the door with a cartload of stuff rather than waiting to pay). No way would I ever consider making this a store that I regularly shop at, after how unpleasant this visit was! Fancy decor can't fix everything, after all. 😉

  1. Yikes! This does not seem like a pleasant checkout procedure at all. Aside from not having free bags, Aldi seems luxurious compared to this!

Quite frankly, my visits to Walmart have been rare in recent years and the checkout experience is a big reason why (though it's not the only reason). Things only seem to be getting worse. The good news, I suppose, is that the Vision Center is the neatest looking part of the store and they are upfront so one does not even need to use these checkouts! Of course, I don't wear glasses or contacts so I'm not really sure why I would even need the Vision Center, lol.

    1. Seriously. It's almost Costco-level bad! I'm the same way with Walmart visits, though an even bigger factor for me is that there are none that are remotely convenient to where I live (something that I'm sure is much less of a problem in most other parts of the country!).

    2. Oh, for sure, Walmart has a much bigger presence here in Houston. In fact, I just thought about it and counted up all the Walmarts that are directly on my path to/from work. There's one a couple of miles from where I live and one a couple of miles from where I work. In between those, there are 5 Walmart Supercenters directly on my path. That means I pass up 7 Walmarts everyday (well, 5 days a week) just to end up shopping somewhere else, lol.

It's not that I'm against Walmart. I remember about 20 years ago, I would occasionally go to Walmart during my lunch break and sometimes I would find things to buy. Walmart is just a less pleasant place to be now compared to then. Even if I wanted I buy something, I don't know if I could go and look for it, go through the checkout line, and be back to work in time with the long checkout lines that are normal at Walmarts.

    3. Wow, yeah, that is a much different situation. If I had a Walmart in a convenient location, I would probably end up shopping there somewhat regularly, but as it is, their prices aren't good enough to convince me to go so far out of my way just to shop there. Plus, on this trip, in the time I spent waiting in line, I could have practically done my entire weekly grocery shopping trip to Safeway, so that really discourages me from wanting to shop at Walmart!
