And to wrap up this set, here's another picture of the always-pristine skybridge lobby from the black hole of the Amazon vestibule. No wonder it's always so nice up here -- even with the store almost closed, they still have cleaning people up here, despite the lack of foot traffic in this part of the store!
Anyways, that's it for this visit -- just two more batches left for this store! Coming up tomorrow: Something completely new!
Since this might be the last Macy's photo here for a while, I thought I would give you a little sneak peek at my next guest post for the Houston Historic Retail blog. It'll be a post celebrating a big anniversary coming up at NW Houston's Willowbrook Mall, my local mall. Now, you might think the preview I'd give you would be from one of the two Macy's (former Foley's stores, one is also a former Montgomery Ward) the mall has, but that's not the case. Instead, here is a photo from inside the mall's Dillard's. It is relevant to Macy's though as Macy's actually built that store in 1984 and then left it about a decade later when Macy's struggled for relevance here in Houston and only kept one store open in the Houston area before they took over for Foley's in 2006.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, the bottom two floors at the Dillard's was renovated when Dillard's moved into the building some 20-25 years ago, but the top floor still has quite a bit of a Macy's look from 1984. This photo, taken by Mike from HHR (I did the text/research for the post and Mike and Je did the photos), really gives a good look at the 1984 look that still exists in the store. I hope you like this! If so, look out for my guest post on HHR on September 1st. Hopefully you don't mind the plug, but Sept. 1st is so far away that who knows if anyone will even remember this plug by then, lol. Cool! 1984 is not too long before Macy's originally bought out the Bon Marche, so who knows, perhaps some stores around here could have looked like that at some point.
