Cream(ery) cheese

Interestingly, this decor seems to divide dairy into two departments -- "Creamery", which appears to refer to various processed dairy products (cheese, yogurt, that sort of thing), and "Dairy", which seems to just be used for milk and other bottled products. While I've seen plenty of stores that physically divide those departments (including almost every Safeway), it seems rather unusual to actually have separate department names for them.

Also, I just noticed that the case on the right has various packaged bakery items (like bagels and English muffins). Is that normal for Walmart? I've never seen anything like that at any other grocery chain, but I'll admit that I don't normally pay a lot of attention to this department in Walmarts.

  1. Having bagels in a fridge in a grocery store is a new one for me.

  2. The fake wood paneling on the wall looks pretty good here. It's certainly better than the long stretches of greyscale colors (non-colors!) that have sadly become common at many other stores including this one in other spots. At least this area makes the store look like a credible grocer.

A bit unrelated but check out how this United Supermarket (Albertsons) in Muleshoe, TX has an open ceiling that is painted like a sky. I guess Walmart really could have gone overboard with the blue scheme and painted the ceiling blue. If they did, they probably wouldn't have used the clouds like United did! But, anyway, the sky might have added to an airport feel, lol. Unfortunately for this United, the ugly concrete floors it has takes away any notion of this being a nice supermarket: https://goo.gl/maps/eP2v1H5kQVteQaLp8

These next two Muleshoe retail things will probably be of more interest to Retail Retell than to NW Retail, but I'll post them here anyway. The old Muleshoe McDonald's PlayPlace was turned into an EMS garage. Odd! Link: https://goo.gl/maps/ghj15gbB3Q7xQYBj6

The Muleshoe Pizza Hut recently moved out of their classic Pizza Hut sit-down location and moved into a newly built sit-down restaurant next door. This is strange, but it seems these new Pizza Hut sit-downs are pretty common in the Texas Panhandle so maybe there is a franchisee there who is optimistic about these new restaurants. Unfortunately, it looks like this opened right before Pizza Hut changed to their new (old) logo. It would have been neat to see the current logo on this place. I really can't remember the last time I saw a new Pizza Hut sit-down restaurant. Maybe it was in the 1980s? Well, anyway, here's a new one: https://goo.gl/maps/zeSBswsipWoRArxPA

    1. Yeah, it really does look nice, especially for Walmart!

That sky-painted ceiling is pretty neat! I certainly haven't seen anything like that before...

  3. Yeah, I've seen those refrigerated bagels all the time at Walmart. Not sure about anywhere else, I'll have to pay attention next time if I remember.

@Anonymous: That's certainly an interesting McDonald's conversion! And cool to hear of a recent new build sit down Pizza Hut as well. I actually liked that marketing era for Pizza Hut, however brief it was. The marinara swirl logo was very cool.

    1. Interesting! I guess I just haven't been paying attention (not that I end up in a Walmart Supercenter very often). Seems like a weird choice, but whatever...
