Welcome to... the 90s

Obviously, this is the point I've been building up to -- the interior! Unlike Mill Creek, which has had (at least) two major remodels over the years, this store has only seen a few minor changes, otherwise retaining its original 90s decor in its full glory. And Fred Meyer's 90s decor is... well, it's certainly interesting, all right! I've already shown you this decor, but in a much smaller store that doesn't have the full compliment of departments. And in my opinion, this "Cartoon" decor package, as I've taken to calling it, is one of the ugliest decor packages of all time, but yet it's still somehow one of my favorites in its own weird way!

  1. That "Welcome to Fred Meyer" sign has a nasty stain on it my the M. I wonder how that got there. Well, whatever the case is, it doesn't make an appealing first impression!

Did this store open with concrete floors like it appears to have in at least the area of this image?

It's a bit strange seeing Krojis in a 1990s store!

    1. Yeah, this store isn't exactly in the greatest shape, which I suppose isn't surprising since it hasn't ever had a full remodel.

I'm sure it did -- I can't imagine Fred Meyer would have removed floor coverings without a real remodel, and the concrete was in quite good shape. Fred Meyer got into stained concrete floors fairly early.

Ha, I still find Krojis weird just in general!

  2. I still maintain that this is so millennium-y!

    1. I'd be interested to know what the timeline is for this compared to Millennium. Cartoon seems to date back to the mid-90s, and some elements seem to be direct evolutions from earlier packages from the late 80s or early 90s (though I've only seen a couple undated pictures from those packages, so I can't be entirely sure).

    2. Yeah, I'm pretty sure this came before millennium and it's just a coincidence, as both my knowledge from flickr of the Delta Division and the research done by the people on Discord suggests millennium was new in 1998.

    3. Ah, I see. Yeah, that would mean they were both around (or at least in the works) prior to the buyout, so it must be just a coincidence.
