Checkout

Finally, after that random wander through the sales floor, we get back up to the checkouts. This store had a rather elaborate checkout setup, again surely designed for the high shopper volumes Fry's once got (how long ago those days seem now). Looking at the picture just to the left of the checkout sign, that's another hyper-local item -- Paccar's factory is just across the street from the back of this store!

  1. Ha, yeah, I remember the long lines at Fry's even when they had something like 20 checkouts open. I'm not sure if you captured it or not, but that lane you would walk down to wait to be redirected to an open checkout was lined with all kinds of impulse buy items like candies, chips, drinks, flash drives, and so forth. Fry's did sell a pretty impressive variety of chocolates and snacks, lol. Of course, in more recent visits, there were no lines to wait in to be checked out and that was only with one checkout open. It's really hard to believe that a store that was once so busy became to dead and that was completely evident in the checkout area!

    1. Yep, that's not surprising! You can kind of see the impulse buy shelving here -- it was pretty much just as empty as the rest of the store.
