Another, more obvious thing you might have noticed was missing near the front entrance: the checkouts! Instead, they're sideways to the store (well, kinda, this whole place is weird), and placed beyond the bakery, floral department, and a few random produce displays. And speaking of things that are missing, this store doesn't have a service bakery section, something I've never seen before in a Safeway of this era and size (I'm not sure how big this store is, but it's probably around 35-40,000 square feet -- not big, but not that small for Seattle-area Safeways either). Amusingly enough, I only just noticed that fact last week, after having shopped at this store for over a month -- I never really buy anything from the service section, and the rest of the bakery is almost exactly the same as what you'd see at a store with a service bakery -- the same selection, and the same random lack of stock (heck, it might actually be better than some other Safeways I've shopped at in that respect!).
