Stepping inside, we find... that someone's very excited about cake! (I mean, who wouldn't be? 😉) As to the store itself, it was a fairly standard Fred Meyer with Northwest decor (the newly-rediscovered official name for what I've been calling the Oval decor) -- though the concrete floor with bad tile scars is an interesting sight in what seems to be an older Northwest remodel, showing that bad concrete floor retrofits aren't entirely a new thing!
Oh, Kroger...err...Fred Meyer....I think they're trying to hide that tile scar from me by putting up that distracting cake display. Well, it didn't work, lol. If I was in the NW, I'd protest by shopping at the local Safeway instead. Well, that is unless the Safeway has tile scar as well. I don't know what else I would do then, lol.
ReplyDeleteHa! Around here, Safeways don't tend to have floor scar (except for some of the converted Albertsons stores), but instead have cheap and poorly-installed white vinyl. I personally tend to think that's even worse, but I know you don't agree!
DeleteWhile I think the plain white tiles Safeway is using in some of the Modern decor stores is not that great looking, it's at least better than the way the concrete under those tiles looks, lol!
DeleteHere's something kind of neat. It's a Fiesta supermarket here in Houston which is located in an old Safeway. Fiesta has put some kind of brown vinyl tiles in parts of the store with a certain pattern to it. It's kind of hard to explain, but it looks both retro and modern at the same time! I'm not sure how well that look will age just as brown tiles did not age well after the 1970s, but I give Fiesta credit for trying something different. I think it looks pretty good and it fits in with the Safewayness of the building: https://goo.gl/maps/SUUwJ3hKavB3XkxQ6
