Looking up at the trusses

I don't know about anyone else, but I always find this sort of view pretty cool! Sure, nothing particularly retail-related here, but I love the giant wood bowstring trusses that this store has! I'm sure they were completely covered up in the bowling alley days, so it's nice that Target left them open like this. (It's slightly disturbing to see the obvious major structural repairs that were done here, like the plates on the beam in the foreground, though... 😉)

  1. This is a pretty neat shot. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this way, but a Target with this type of ceiling might be the most remarkable aspect of this store. Oh, sure, there are other remarkable aspects, but this this really neat for a modern discount store.

    1. Thanks! It's sure an unusual combination of an old-fashioned structural design with the modern tendency to have exposed ceiling structures. It's not quite as cool (to me) as this more modern example, though!

  2. I don't typically pay attention to the ceiling, but I agree, it is pretty nice when it's made a big focal point like this.

    1. Sure is! I wish more (newer) buildings would do something like this rather than the plain metal trusses used today. I'm sure there are plenty of old buildings with cool ceilings like this just hiding behind drop ceilings, too.
