Aisle marker, stickered

For some reason, someone felt the need to install stickers on the end of each aisle marker facing the back of the store, spelling out the name of the aisle. One oddity about this store that I didn't mention is that it has no aisle markers along the back actionway, which makes sense since that's under the low soffit, so perhaps this was an attempt (presumably by someone on the store level) to compensate for that. If so, it failed miserably, as the lettering is way too small to be clearly read from the back of the store, and also gets washed out by the light coming in the windows along the front (which is why this picture is taken at a weird angle, since my old camera was very bad at taking pictures looking towards bright light!).

  1. Well, that's odd that they used those stick-on letters that one would use on their mailbox or something like that, but I suppose it does help the customers and staff at least a little bit. The old style of signs that were swung around 90 degrees didn't have that problem, but then some grocers use triangular type signs.

    1. Yeah, that is a definite downside to perpendicular aisle markers like this when compared to the parallel style, but I think this design is better overall. From a wayfinding perspective, though, the tri-siders are probably the best overall! I don't believe Safeway has ever used those, however.
