Up in this part of the store is where the biggest change happened in the remodel. The old, oversized upstairs checkout area was cut in half (in floor area at least; the swap from full-size staffed checkouts to compact self-checkouts probably means that there aren't that many fewer stations) to accommodate a large, walled-off liquor department. I feel like this represents the change in Target's thinking from these smaller-format stores being just a shrunk-down Target into being their whole own thing -- while originally this space looked much like a full-sized Target's front end, now it's clearly different and fits in line with the newer, smaller small-format Targets.
