This store was built in 1966 (according to the "Serving Clatskanie since..." sign inside), and is in a tiny town of less than 2000 people along the Columbia River northwest of Portland. It's no surprise, therefore, that this store is one of the cutist, smallest Safeways I've visited! I'd really love to know what the smallest town is that Safeway has a store in; I have to imagine there aren't all that many smaller than Clatskanie! Trying to look that up, however, I found something very interesting -- "Crow Creek Mercantile", in Girdwood, Alaska, a tiny store which is clearly somehow related to Safeway looking through the pictures, though I have no idea exactly what's going on there. That's definitely something I'd love to check out if I ever end up in the Anchorage area!

Concerning Crow Creek Mercantile, very interesting... This article seems to have a bit more info: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g31000-i3143-k7520574-Safeway_supermarket_in_Girdwood-Girdwood_Anchorage_Alaska.html
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's the thread that I originally saw! Not a ton of additional information there, though.
