Front end

Interestingly, the front end here appears to date back to the diamond windows/Extremely 90s decor era, with the distinctive sawtooth checkout counter. Most Payless stores had standard checkout aisles, which Rite Aid sometimes has converted to a counter design -- but I'm not aware of very many cases in which they did that in the initial conversion. (One store in Port Angeles technically did, but that was a special case in which a very late, very large Payless was cut in half by Rite Aid and extensively remodeled to match the Diamond Windows model, including a particularly weird layout that tried to match the weird Diamond Windows arrangement to a different building shape. I'm quite sad that that store remodeled back in the early days of the circle decor, and I highly doubt I'm ever going to find any interior pictures from back then.)
