I'm not sure whether the store originally ended at the lowered ceiling bit or if the alcove is original. I know that a lot of Marina stores were expanded on the sides at some point, but there's no evidence of that happening here -- but the low ceiling bits look a bit weird. Oh, and another classic rural Safeway thing here -- yes, the sign in the background is directing customers to go into the back room to get to the restrooms, something that's quite common in older Safeways, as odd as it seems by modern standards.
