While that big red wall may have looked like the end of the store, it's really just another ceiling transition. This one actually has a reason to exist, though -- there's another story above this (with something for the condo portion of the building, which only exists above this space). The ceiling was able to be lower over here because this wall was the end of the theater space, with the north end being a restaurant space (I can't find any information on the restaurant here, so for all I know it may never have opened). The linear guide sign above the opening is interesting, especially since it doesn't have a particularly accurate list of what's in this space (most of the area, as you can see, is taken up by the tech department, which isn't even listed on the sign).
