Looking the other way from that previous picture, we see the checkouts and customer service area, with the latter done up in an extremely red color scheme to match the entryway. The downstairs checkouts at this store, in their original design, were always a bit of a disaster, with far too few checkouts for the demand (meanwhile, the large upstairs checkout section was generally not too busy -- it seems like a large portion of the customers here are just grabbing a few things from the grocery section rather than shopping the general merchandise section) and completely terrible queue management that led to people bunching up in the actionway itself. (And it looks like that employee off to the right totally saw me -- oops! 😉)
