The back wall of this store is where things start to get a bit odd, and obviously changed from the Safeway days. The original salesfloor would have ended where the wavy ceiling ends (on the left of this picture), so it's obvious (and unsurprising) that Big Lots or its predecessors expanded the store into Safeway's old service departments and back rooms. However, the low-ceiling space also changes in the middle, from exposed wood structure to having a white drywall or plaster ceiling, and I have no idea what the story behind that is -- perhaps the salesfloor was expanded once up to the line, and then expanded again at a later point to its current extents, but that's just a guess.
