The 4th and Pine corner of the building was taken up by the "Macy's Candy Kitchen" department. This was a big mystery for multiple reasons -- first, why was this given such prominent placement? Candy doesn't exactly seem like a big Macy's thing to me (with the exception of Frangos, a candy originally made by the Seattle department store Frederic and Nelson and now owned by Macy's by way of the Bon Marche, and which is apparently much less good these days than before the Macy's acquisition -- I'd be interested in knowing if this is a brand that any of you know of, since it's now owned by a national company). Secondly, and more importantly, I have no idea how you accessed this section, since the doors to the outside always seemed to be locked, I never found an interior entrance, and I never saw any shoppers or employees in here on any of my visits. There did always seem to be products to buy inside, but I'm not sure how you would buy the,!
Nope, never heard of Frangos...
ReplyDeleteI've heard of Frangos in relation to Marshall Fields, but never knew of the Northwestern connection (or that they were now available nationally).
ReplyDeleteThanks to both of you! I imagine most people know Frangos through the Chicago connection, but to be honest I didn't realize they were a thing outside of Frederick & Nelson/the Bon Marche in the northwest until I read up on them yesterday.
