Turrets? Towers? What are these things?

In addition to the weird tower things, this store also has a big glassed-in area in the front of the store with a metal roof over the top, another oddball feature for QFC. I'm not sure if this area was originally intended to hold anything special (like a cafe seating area) or what, but the windows are now mostly walled off on the inside, sadly.
