This store has the newest design of Safeway self checkouts, meaning that they must have been installed in this store in just the last few months, making it one of the last stores in the area to get self checkouts. Safeway was still in the Albertsons anti-self checkout mindset at the time they took stores back from Haggen, which is why it didn't get self checkouts at the time of the conversion like the more recently converted stores have. This is the first store I saw this rather cool looking model in, but I've since seen it in a couple other Safeways that were very late adopters of self checkouts. And as you can see here, people at this store clearly like self checkouts as they were busier than the normal checkouts! (This is a common sight in the Seattle area, which makes it rather frustrating that Albertsons was so opposed to them for so long, and still doesn't like to put nearly enough of them in their stores.)
