This store's furniture-store origins, and its particularly window-filled design even for that market, certainly make this one of the more interesting Walmart Neighborhood Market conversions out there! That being said, Portland used to have a couple other highly-interesting NHMs, including this one that was built as a Haggen (as part of their earlier, less infamous but still massively failed, expansion attenpt), and this super interesting building that was once a Zupan's (a local upscale grocery store), which both closed a few years back during one of Walmart's big closing waves. It's sad that I wasn't able to see those stores, but this one makes up for that in part -- and it's not entirely surprising that Walmart didn't do so well in those super high-end areas!
