Self Checkout

What's old is new again for this store, as the remodel included adding a large new self checkout area! While Albertsons pulled self checkouts out of most of their stores shortly before the merger, Safeway is now very much in to self checkouts again, adding them to almost every store, whether they're getting remodeled or not. I suppose they're trying to catch up to QFC and Fred Meyer, which have used self checkouts extensively for many years, and in this store they even used the fancy corral-style layout rather than the typical row layout. (This appears to have been a last-minute change, as the original plans showed a standard layout of three rows of two self-checkout machines -- and even that must have been a last-minute change, as there's a note on the plans that says "4 Self-Checkouts"!)
