While full-size Targets have a large front end, this mini-Target has a disproportionately small checkout space. It just has the 6 self checkouts seen here, a customer service desk with 2 service checkout positions, and the order pickup desk off to the right. Clearly, they're trying to reduce labor costs (by trying to get everyone to use self checkout) and don't expect this store to ever get that busy, as even the total number of checkouts is rather low. (The Safeway across the street has 6 self checkouts and normally has at least 4 regular/express checkout lines open when I'm there and still tends to have very long lines, so clearly Target doesn't expect this store to ever get nearly as busy as the competitor across the street. And it really doesn't compare to the other direct, if more distant, competitor Fred Meyer, which now has 24 self checkouts and normally at least 10 staffed ones open...)
