The prepared foods part of the deli did get a larger remodel, with new cases and probably some backroom work, but it still doesn't seem like that big of a change. Notably, the "Fresh Meals" part was originally supposed to be "The Chicken Co", something that Fred Meyer has been (had been?) adding to tons of stores -- I have to wonder what happened to that, though I will note that it didn't seem particularly well received, so it wouldn't be too surprising if they pulled the plug in favor of a more general prepared foods department, which I will note did have a large fried chicken section.
