The cause for all that emptiness is clear when you reach the end of the hall, with the big empty Macy's space sucking the life out of the vicinity. This store, back when it was still the Bon Marche (which doesn't rhyme with "empty", but that's the best I could come up with...), was likely the highlight of the mall when it opened, but is now the biggest blight on the present-day mall. As far as I can tell, there are no real plans to do anything with this space, and I doubt many companies would be particularly interested in it at this point.
