The last of the four anchor spaces is now home to Sportsman's Warehouse, a smaller, west coast-focused sporting goods chain. This space was apparently originally home to Emporium, an Oregon-based department store chain that disappeared in the early 2000s (and which I had never heard of until I started researching this mall). Street View captured this store in 2012 still sporting an obvious Emporium labelscar; clearly, it was no less generic looking then than it is now!
I didn't realize Sportsman's Warehouse was primarily a west coast chain. We have one in Southaven, and I believe I remember seeing one on one of our trips to SC as well.
ReplyDeleteInteresting... According to their store list, the majority of their stores are along the west coast, but they do have a smaller presence spread thinly through most of the country. I guess you just happen to be by some of the relatively few locations in the eastern half of the country!
DeleteHa, I guess so! I remember Southaven's actually closed for a brief period in 2009 before reopening a year or so later. If I'm correct, they closed *all* of their stores east of the Mississippi River at that time. I wonder how many east of the river these days are existing stores that reopened versus how many are new builds since that time. I know Southaven's in particular they were eager to reopen - it was among the most profitable in the chain!
