At the far south end of the mall, the most prominent sign of its decline is painfully visible -- the abandoned former Macy's store. The Bon Marche (which was folded into Macy's long ago) was another of the mall's original tenants, and made it all the way until 2017 before closing in one of their first large rounds of closures. This store has a rather generic look that's surprisingly similar to the Penney's at the north end -- in fact, all four of the original anchor stores looked rather similar, making me wonder if the mall developers required them all to adhere to the same look or if retail architecture was really just that boring in the late 80s! 😉
